Nell Whyte

“Today we received a copy of Nell’s Service of Thanksgiving which took place on 18th March. Then we opened your web page hoping to find out something about your church and were amazed to be able to receive a complete audio record of Nell’s Service.

We just had to listen to the complete service and even took part singing the hymns. It was just as if we were attending Nell’s Thanksgiving Service whilst being a half world away!”

Dorothy Kimmerley (Nell’s younger sister)

(Mrs Nell Whyte, who died on 11th March, was our oldest member, passing away just a couple of weeks short of her 104th birthday. Where services of thanksgiving are conducted in the church, we try and ensure that not only are they broadcast live, but can be accessed subsequently from our website. As the comment above makes clear, there are very real benefits from this technology!)

The Big Picture

The latest issue of our magazine is now out and ready for distribution.

Well worth a read, it gives you a snapshot of the life of the congregation and a flavour of the range of all that’s going on.

Find out why this year could change your life, why you’ll have to wait another 10 years for the Easter experience, why Malawi and Kenya figure largely in our young people’s thinking … and a whole load more!

Youth Ministry Area

Derek Peach has recently been appointed to head up our Youth Ministry Area.

Derek and his family have been very actively involved with us over many years and we’re delighted that he’s taken on this leadership responsibility.

He is a highly regarded primary school teacher, who’s been an integral part of our annual Holiday Club for years – some of it in a ‘behind the scenes’(!) sort of way!

He’ll be commissioned by us to this new sphere of ministry at the morning service on Sunday 20th February.

Calum Stark

Calum preached ‘successfully’ before the congregation of Macduff Parish Church on Sunday 9th January.

He was elected unanimously by the congregation as their next minister, and looks forward now to starting there, probably in mid-April: a service of ordination and induction looks likely to take place on Friday April 15th.

Do continue to pray for him and his family, and for the congregation at Macduff, as they look forward together to this new chapter in their lives.

Marc and Anthea Bircham

Marc  (pictured) has been minister at St Madoes in the Presbytery of Perth for a good many years now and he and Anthea, who used to be members with us here, continue to know encouragements and challenge.

Here’s a note from the Birchams in relation to their ongoing ministry at St Madoes.

“We are delighted that people seeking continue to be added to the numbers on a Sunday morning. Those who have become Christians are becoming more bold in their willingness to organise areas of church life and in speaking out for their faith. The pastoral care team are doing a fantastic job of trying to find ways of meeting some of the needs of our Parish. The Holiday Club was a very significant witness this year with people enthusiastic to speak up for their faith in front of friends and neighbours. Nevertheless we are aware of the spiritual battle we are in …”

Roy Miller and Anne Sherry

A service of thanksgiving for the life of Roy Miller was held in the church on Friday 17th December.

Roy passed away in hospital on Wednesday 1st December aged 94. He’d lived the past year or so with his daughter Christine, whom, along with Margaret, Roy’s wife, and his son, Graham, we commend to your continuing prayers.

The following day, Saturday 18th December, a service of thanksgiving for the life of Anne Sherry was held in the Lorimer Chapel at Warriston Crematorium.

A large number of family and friends attended the service, supporting her husband, Frank, and her daughter and sons and grandchildren, acknowledging God’s goodness through the life of one who sought to serve her Lord in all she did.

If you’d like a copy of the address given at either of these services of thanksgiving, please contact the office.
